Divorce - Do I Need Divorce Certificates for All My Previous Divorces?

Yes, you will need them.

Divorce certificates are required to prove:

  1. Marriage legal status
  2. Name changes for women. Different names may appear on documents such as passports, birth certificates, bank records, or marriage papers.
  3. For USCIS officials to clearly understand the person’s family and legal history.

Giving a full history of names and marriages can help prevent delays during identity checks or application reviews.

Documents you will need for proof of divorces and/or name changes:

  • Divorce certificates
  • Records showing name changes

  • Former surnames or alias names used on official documents
